Peter R. Leal is a registered patent attorney with extensive experience in all aspects of intellectual property law and e-commerce law. 

Intellectual Property Transactions: Mr. Leal advises clients in intellectual property transactions including drafting and negotiating patent and software license agreements, technology development and manufacturing agreements, supply agreements, distribution agreements, and Internet based agreements. He also provides license agreement interpretation, royalty audits, open source software advice, and intellectual property due diligence for, and intellectual property agreements pertaining to, mergers, acquisitions and divestitures of complex technologies. Mr. Leal has had one license agreement litigated and upheld by the Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit.

Patent Transactions: Mr. Leal represents clients in strategic patent counseling, patent infringement studies, patent validity studies, evaluation of intellectual property portfolios, patent portfolio management, and patent preparation and prosecution before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.  He also serves as a patent law expert witness in patent litigation. 

Patent Litigation Support: Mr. Leal provides patent litigation support, including claims analysis, and validity and right to use studies in complex electronics, computer systems, communication networks, and software technologies.

Technologies:  Mr. Leal represents clients in, and has deep technological knowledge of, the mechanical, electrical, communications and computer arts, including control systems for remotely operated vehicles, microwave and antenna technology, computer architecture, computer systems, storage systems, RAID, storage area networks, processor based systems, personal computers, virtual storage and caching, virtual servers, design automation systems, automatic banking terminals (ATM), disk storage (DASD) including error detection and correction, magneto-resistive (MR and GMR) technology and optical storage technology, software technologies including  virtualization software, hashing algorithms, and artificial intelligence, business methods, communication networks characterized by the OSI Seven Layer Model, Internet architecture characterized by the TCP/IP Reference Model, cloud computing, transmission protocols such as VoIP, tunneling protocols such as GRE, translating protocols such as NHRP (NBMA), cryptography protocols such as IPSec, endpoint resource management protocols such as GDOI, and VPN Technology.
